Russell is always excusing himself to take important calls, lawyer stuff I assume. Our Writers Group is used to it. We know he will soon slip back in quietly and join the discussion.
Last Thursday he returned as never before. He interrupted the meeting with an important announcement.
“I just helped out a young lady.” Pause. “I guess you could say I’m a Great Samaritan.”
Now there’s a story opening. Damsel in distress saved heroically. We wanted details.
“I was outside on the phone and saw this young lady drive in on a flat tire.”
I was amazed at how quickly he fixed the problem. He hadn’t been gone that long. Tell us more.
“I came inside and told her she had a flat.”
And? The rest of story Good Samaritan.
“That’s it. Now she knows.”
The whole group spoke at once. After friendly discussion we bestowed on Russell the title of “So-so Samaritan” and had a good laugh.
