Part of promoting my new book, Murder For Me, is making videos for my web page. I have several videos already, but they are mainly of my travel. I had to first start a YouTube page and build an inventory of the videos I had.
I have videos of entering Petra http://youtu.be/HoDtVV9ztIM and going crazy riding in the back of a pickup at the Seven Pillars of the Wadi Ram http://youtu.be/GllYeAk6x0U
My first literary post was of my good friend and fellow writer Eric Thuesen reading an original piece of his at an open mic event http://youtu.be/JL1_KIDf00U
Tonight after my publicity team meeting I videoed three promotions for my upcoming release of my short story O.C. Got Hoodooed and the cover for my new book Murder For Me. They are raw, and I will have to put a lot of work into videos if they are ever going to look as good as I want them to be. Thanks to my son, David, and my wife, Melinda, for helping me.
But this is an important part of building my writer’s platform, and I have to do it. And I have to get better at it. I was at a writers conference this weekend and two things stood out to me about it. Two of the speakers stressed the importance of video promotion and almost none of the writers used video on their pages.
It’s hard work. And it’s humiliating to see an imperfect video of yourself out in the internet universe for anyone to see. So when you see my videos over the next few weeks please know I’m working hard to get better.
By the way, my cover is beautiful. I can’t tell you how excited I am for you to see it.
